Silmo 2018

Silmo 2018

Silmo 2018

Judith and I have just returned from Silmo the optical trade show in Paris.

One of the benefits of travelling abroad to the tradeshows is the ability to tag on a couple of extra days of leisure.

We set off on Friday morning on the red eye flight to Paris and arrived at 10.00am at the trade show which is situated at the exposition centre at Villepinte.

After coffee we went into hall 6 and spoke to various suppliers and looked at the new range of fashion eyewear for 2018/2019.

The days at the shows are long and late into the afternoon we went to our hotel in Roissy which is a 15 minute taxi ride from the show.

Roissy is a small French town which services travellers threough CDG airport. It is not what you expect. Along with the chain of hotels there is a village centre where ordinary people live and work.

The centre is home to a number of very good restaurants. We ate at a creperie on Friday night where we were sat next to a very nice gentleman from Italy.

On Saturday we awoke refreshed and ready to go.

We had our day planned.

  • First of all we went to say hello to IZIPIZI.
  • We met up with I Need You who were visiting..
  • At lunch time we had a drink and talks with ICON eyewear
  • In the afternoon we had discussions with APTICA about stock levels for POPART.
  • A meeting with a friend and colleague Julie should have ended the day...however.

We like to bring something new back from a show and we were very pleased to find CROON a new reading glasses brand from Holland. Keep a look out on this website later this month for their modern take on eyewear.

Every day brings new surprises and amongst them that evening was an email from The Gaurdian newspaper in Australia who in conjunction with American Express were doing a feature on us!

Less about work what about the leisure.

We stayed at The Select hotel in Place Sorbonne which is a small modern hotel but centrally located near the Luxembourg gardens.

Two days in Paris is never enough but we crammed in as much as we could.

  1. Luxembourg gardens
  2. Notre Dame Cathedral
  3. Church of Saint Severin...stunning!
  4. Sacre Couer
  5. Mont Martre and the place of the artists.

The Tower will have to wait for the next visit!

Caio for now
